Thank you for applying for a research grant through the COE Dean’s Grant Program. The purpose of the Dean’s Grant for research is to assist COE faculty and staff in completing a pilot or small-scale study to prepare for submission of an externally funded grant. Maximum amount per award is $2,500. Proposals will be reviewed by the College Research Committee. Four research grants will be awarded in Academic Year 2017-2018.
• Proposals may not involve hiring new employees. If grant proposals include additional pay for existing personnel, stipends must be in compliance with NIU compensation guidelines (contact the COE Budget Office for clarification).
• Item purchases should be in compliance with NIU Procurement rules, i.e., purchase order requirements and research incentives. Food and gifts may not be included in grant proposal budget.
• Recipients will be announced by December 1, 2017
• Grant Funds must be spent by June 30, 2018. Grant recipients will receive further instructions.

Provide a concise description of your proposal using non-technical language. Include a brief introduction including a problem statement, purpose statement, and research questions. Describe your methods including subjects/participants, data sources, and data analysis. Describe the significance of the project. [3000 words maximum]
Describe how the proposal aligns with your research agenda and the mission of your department. [500 words maximum]
Briefly describe your project timeline (the project must be complete by June 30, 2018)
